Emil Ruder, a notable Swiss graphic and typographic designer born in the early 1900’s. He took to breaking away from the renown subjective typographies of the time and branched towards focusing on objective means. By this he would look at how the typography was mean’t to convey and communicate information, rather than be used in a purely non-relative, style-driven form.
Here we have in this image, the cover of Emil’s famous book ‘Typographie’ in recognizable form to his objective relativity, it’s a book about Typography, stylized to convey the informative message of typography. I chose this image because it’s directly the resonating image of what Emil’s concept is trying to show us.
In essence, if you’re attempting Typography, the words on the screen must have correlation to the information you’re trying to represent. His depiction of the entitled book show very clearly a demonstration on how Typography is used to display Typography, it’s ingenious.
Personal opinion, i tend to agree with Emil on his premise. Representation in any form has to have some relevance with what you’re doing and/or selling. I’ve seen plenty of times in recent times where companies have simple text to represent what they are and very little in stylized relation to what they’re selling.
